NAI Carolantic Realty to market RDU lots

RALEIGH, N.C. (December 16, 2011) -- Raleigh-Durham International Airport is changing tack in its pursuit of restaurant tenants for property that it owns along Aviation Parkway.

The airport plans to have NAI Carolantic Realty market two lots on the east side of the road, just north of I-40, following a vote by its governing board on Thursday. RDU Business Development Officer Ingrid Hairston said she foresees a fast-food restaurant on a 1.5-acre lot and a casual-dining restaurant on a 2-acre lot.

The two lots and a third, where a Sheetz gasoline station and convenience store opened in 2007, make up what the airport has dubbed “Aviation Station.”

The airport had negotiated directly with a Burger King  .. franchisee for one of the two open lots since 2009, but ultimately dropped the Charlotte-based company in May 2011 when it proved unable to obtain the $1 million financing necessary for the project.

Hairston said the airport is seeking restaurants that will appeal to airport users, to commuters, and to other local residents.
